Funeral service for Mrs. Alverine Swinford Askins, age 90, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 1 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Black officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Gardens next to her husband, Robert Patrick Askins. Mrs. Askins passed away on August 21, 2017 at Bailey Manor.
Mrs. Askins was born on April 17, 1927 to the late Eljie and Bertha Irene Swinford in Lincoln County, TN. She worked as a seamstress for Jonathan Logan and Serbin before retiring and then working as a cook at Fayetteville Junior High School. She was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda (late Robert W.) Posey; granddaughters, Kim (Steve) Jean and Daphne Posey; grandson, Jamie Posey; great-grandchildren, Kati and Nick Jean all of Fayetteville, TN. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Noland and Euledge Swinford.
Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, August 24, 2017 at 11 AM until time of service at Higgins Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Street Church of Christ Scholarship Fund at PO Box 324, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.

Alverine and Pat were neighbors ( Woodrow & Mildred Ramsey) to my parents. Best kind of neighbors.
So sorry to hear of Aunt Alverine’s passing, we loved her and she was a great lady. I will never forget how good her roast and fruit salad tasted and we will always cherish the Christmas memories we shared in her log home.
