It is with regret that we announce the death of Mrs. Betty Whorton Barham, age 73, of Fayetteville, TN. Mrs. Barham passed away September 8, 2016 at her residence.
Mrs. Barham was a native of New Hope, AL, the daughter of the late Titus Whorton and Leora Keel Whorton, who survives. She was a dedicated mother and friend to all who knew her. She was a nurse for over 40 years and truly enjoyed helping and taking care of others, placing others needs before and above her own. She enjoyed reading and traveling, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially with her 5 toddler nieces, 2 toddler nephews and 1 toddler great grandson. She couldn’t wait to wake up everyday to see what had been going on with them for the day and hearing the stories she got from their mothers every day of the new things they were learning or things they would do at school or just for the day. She loved everyone unconditionally no matter who you were. She will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include her daughter Beth (Michael) Young of Dallas, TX, mother Leora Keel Whorton, sister Brenda (Donald) Keel, brother Jerry (Sandra) Whorton, sister Susan (Nathan) Nickelson all of New Hope, AL, sister-in-law Paulette (Pat) Carver of Petersburg, TN, along with 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by son William Lyle Barham, Jr., daughter Amy Shannon “Crickett” Barham, father Titus Whorton, brother Teddy Whorton and numerous aunts, uncles and other family members.
A private family graveside service will be conducted at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Barham requested that memorials may be made, in memory of her daughter Amy “Crickett” Barham, to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd floor, Bethesda, Maryland 20814.

beth an family I worked with betty for several yrs. at lcc on different floors . when we worked second shift we would get off work an go to Patrick an get in the pool to unwind . we always had a good time she was always the first one out . our thoughts an prayers are with you an your family .
I worked with ms.Betty at lincoln she was a wonderful nurse an friend of mine. I’m sorry for ur lost. She will be greatly missed.
I worked with Betty and she took care of my mother. She was my mom’s favorite nurse and if my mom couldn’t remember her name she would refer to her as that “pretty nurse”.She loved her pateinces and they loved her
I am so sorry for the loss of your Mother. She was a sweet, kind lady. She was always good to me back in our hog showing days and I’m so thankful to have reconnected with her over the last few years. We have had some good talks and I consider her a dear friend. You are truly blessed to have had such a lady to be your Mother
Ms Betty was a second mother to all of us kids and I have nothing but fond memories of her even when she was getting my behind. Most of my childhood was spent with her and your family and I will cherish those memories forever. Beth, you all are in my thoughts and prayers and if you need anything please do not hesitate to call us. We love you.
Betty and I worked together back in the early 80’s and I often took care of Cricket in the ER. My son ,Brad, has been doing her yard work and has often spoke of what a wonderful person she was. Y’all are in our thoughts and prayers!
Beth I was so blessed to have Betty as my neighbor and nurse. We didn’t visit much but we talked on the phone especially warning each other if strangers were knocking on doors. Wish I could have been able to help. If only i had known I would have gone to her. She is with loved ones and out of pain. I am going to miss her not being there.
Betty and I shared many years of laughter, heartache, and tears together. She was a strong person who always had my back. I will miss my friend, but I have lots of good memories I will hold on to forever. Love you, Ma! Give Cricket a big hug for me.

Family, I worked with your mother at the nursing home and I agree she did put others before herself even when she was actually more in need of the care. I also took care of Crickett right before she died and that is where and when I met your mother. Remember the good times when you start missing her so bad you want to just curl up in a ball and cry yourself to death.
