Obituary

John Walter Walden, Jr., age 83, of Arlington, Texas, went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2017. Mr. Walden was born March 27, 1934.

Visitation with the family will be from noon to 2 PM, Saturday, August 19, 2017, followed by the funeral service at 2 PM at Higgins Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Prosperity Cemetery.

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, he was the son of the late John Walter Walden and the late Gladys Louise Smithers Walden. He served in the Alabama National Guard, retired as an engineer for IBM after working with them for 37 years having worked on the NASA space program and helped develop the personal computer. Mr. Walden was a member of several churches during his life, he led many Bible studies and also was an elder in Georgetown, Texas, where he resided from 1977 until 2013.

Survivors include his son John Walter Walden, III, and wife Rhonda, daughter Lynn Walden Batton and husband Robert, grandchildren John Walter Walden, IV, and wife Montana, Zachary Batton, and wife Shannon, Morgan Batton, James Batton, Micah Batton, and Dustin McFerrin, great grandchildren John Walter Walden, V, Wynona Raven Walden and Skylar Fox Walden, sisters-in-law Peggy Eddins Wright and Carol Hammons and husband Carl, and Joannah Holt and husband Buddy, brother-in-law John Kidd, Jr. and wife Robin, nephews and a niece. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Kidd Walden, grandson Evan Ramon Walden, and step-son Kevin Hughes McFerrin.

    I liked John, I was friends with his step-son Kevin since high school. He was a smart technical guy. Both he and Judy was a sweetheart.

    I don’t know much about him but he was a amazing good person. I wished I talked to him more about him self get to know him better you know but, the time has passed and we can’t go back to the past.
