Obituary

Vivian Baucom Laird passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, on July 22, 1922, Vivian was the daughter of L.T. Baucom and Allie Barnes Baucom. She graduated from Rison School where she was an accomplished basketball player. As an adult, she worked as a clerk for the Public Utilities office in Huntsville, as Assistant Registrar at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia and librarian at the DeSoto Trail Library in Camilla Georgia.


Mrs. Laird enjoyed gardening, reading, and following the Florida State Seminoles and the Alabama Crimson Tide football teams. A lifelong Baptist, Vivian was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville and especially enjoyed singing in the church’s YY choir.


Mrs. Laird is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and David O’Connor of Fayetteville, her grandson Chris O’Connor and his wife Anna Margaret, her grandson Preston Laird and his wife Krissie of Savannah, Georgia, and great-grandchildren Mac and Meg O’Connor and Mary Leighton and Maddie Laird, as well as her dear friend Margie Howard. She was preceded in death by her son, J. Darrell Laird of Albany, Georgia, and her husband Ivey M. Laird, to whom she was married for more than sixty years.


A graveside service will be held at Booneville Cemetery on Saturday, July 3rd, 10 A.M. with Donnie Browning of First Baptist Church of Fayetteville officiating. There will be no visitation prior to the service.


Memorial gifts may be made in her honor to the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville or to the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville.

The family would like to thank the staff of Donalson Care Center and Lincoln Medical Home Health and Hospice for the special care given Mrs. Laird in her final days.
