Virginia was born on June 10, 1932 in Lincoln County, TN to the late George Presley and Lena Mae Fowler. She and Bill were married December 30, 1950. After working at Elk Cotton Mill where she met Bill, she became a bookkeeper and was employed by Reese Motors, Kraft Foods, and Builders Supply in Fayetteville and Fowler Auction in Toney, AL. Later in life she was an entrepreneur who owned “Virginia’s Boutique” from 1988-1997. The boutique was known in Lincoln County and surrounding areas for providing elegant fashion and accessories to our community. Virginia was also a longstanding member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church since 1959. She enjoyed making quilts, gardening, sharing cuttings and bulbs with anyone willing to take them, and doing yard work especially riding on her zero turn lawnmower. Most of all, she loved people and always met them with a smile. Virginia passed this life on May 25, 2021, surrounded by her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Deloris (Rick) Gaines of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Brittany Green of Nashville, Brooke (MacKenzie) Cross of Fort Drum, NY, Michelle Gaines and Nikki Gaines of Sarasota, FL, and Meredith Gaines of Arlington, VA; great-grandchildren, Marlee Cross, Baylee Cross, both of Fort Drum, NY, Christian Gaines and Jagger Williams, both of Sarasota, FL; sister-in-law, Louise Fowler of Tullahoma; brother-in-law, Ed Flynt of Fayetteville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her siblings, William Fowler, Evelyn Fowler Kennedy, James Fowler, Mary Fowler Osment, Glendon Fowler, and Billy Fowler.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Higgins Funeral Home. Memorial may be made to the Fayetteville First Baptist Church, Building Fund, P.O. Box 623, Fayetteville, TN 37334; Tennessee Baptist Adult Homes, 4017 Rural Plains Circle, Franklin, TN 37064; or a charity of your choice.

    Deloris,
Both your parents were well-loved friends of our family. My parents enjoyed Virginia and Bill for so many years. Bob and I are sorry for your loss, but are also rejoicing in the time you had with them after your return to Fayetteville. I know the girls will forever treasure the memories of their grandparents. And you and Rick will remember the support of your wonderful parents in all the ways they loved you.
