Obituary

Funeral service for Sylvia Joan Hagan, age 87, of Huntsville, AL, will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville, TN, with Minister Charles Abernathy officiating. Burial will be held at 2 PM on Saturday at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper, TN.

Joan was born on February 15, 1935, in Jackson County, Alabama to the late Samuel Larry Rorex and Bertha Eva Poe Rorex. She met her loving husband, J.B. Hagan, at Russell Cave National Monument in Bridgeport, AL, where he was working as a National Park Ranger. J.B. and Joan married on October 1, 1967, and celebrated 53 wonderful years of marriage, before J.B. passed away on February 22, 2021. Joan loved her church family dearly and was an active member of West Huntsville Church of Christ and previously Fanning Heights Church of Christ in Huntsville. Mrs. Hagan passed away on November 14, 2022, at Bailey Manor in Fayetteville, TN.

Survivors include her daughter, Sherri (Andrew) Lyon of Flintville; grandchildren, Dale (Jamie) Lyon, Aaron (Victoria) Lyon, Sam Lyon, Kaitlyn (Caleb) Childers, Timothy Lyon, Kimberly Lyon, Abigail Lyon, and Daniel Lyon; great-granddaughter, Elouise Lyon; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Rorex and Patsy Rorex; nieces, Jane (Larry) Holland, and Cynthia (Todd) Lynn; and nephews, Glenn (Bonnie) Rorex, and Troy Rorex. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in death by her brothers, Elmoore Rorex, and Tommy Rorex; and a sister, Martha (Chester) Vaughn.

Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Higgins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to World Missions, Bridgeport Church of Christ, P.O. Box 725, Bridgeport, AL 35740.
