Funeral service for Mrs. Sybil Rives Sumners, age 96, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 2 PM on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Higgins Funeral Home with Dr. Jon Hathcock officiating. Burial will follow in Flintville Cemetery next to her second husband, Robert L. Counts.
Mrs. Sumners was born on November 30, 1921 in Lincoln County, TN to the late James and Mattie Bartlett Rives. She worked for Blue Ridge Shirt Company/Serbin Manufacturing and retired as the press department supervisor. After retirement, she worked as a greeter at Walmart and volunteered at the hospital for 20 years. She was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church. Mrs. Sumners passed away on September 6, 2018 at her residence.
Survivors include her sons Larry (Peggy) Marshall and Joe Christopher Counts all of Fayetteville, TN; stepchildren, Bonnie (Terry) Reavis and Mike (Cheryl) Sumners; grandchildren, Lisa Marshall of Fayetteville, TN, Scott Marshall of Tullahoma, TN, Shelby (Morgan) Dorn of New Market, AL, and Natalie (C.J.) Pitts of Cleveland, TN; six great-grandchildren;one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her second husband, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilson Marshall; third husband, Thomas Wilburn Sumners; brothers, Clyde and Fred Rives; and sister, Glendon Cunningham.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at 12 PM until time of service at 2 PM at Higgins Funeral Home. Higgins is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Sumners.
So sorry for the loss if such a sweet lady, she will be missed.

Sybil will always be remembered as a kind, loving giving person. She & my Mom were very close friends & thru the years I was priveliged to share that relationship. As you say goodbye to her know that my prayers & love go out to you all. What a legacy she leaves having lived so long & touched the lives of so many thru her good works!
