Obituary

A funeral service for Shannon-Michelle Jean Taylor Alcorn, age 56, of Fayetteville, TN, will be held at 3 PM on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Washington Street Church of Christ with Bro. Charles Abernathy, Bro. Jim Black, and Bro. J.B. Cox officiating. A private burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville, TN. Visitation with the family will be from 4 PM until 8 PM on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at Higgins Funeral Home, as well as from 2 PM until the time of the service on Monday at the church.

Shannon was born on January 18, 1970, in Wichita, KS, to Thomas and Lucille Martinez Taylor. She worked as a high school social studies teacher until the birth of her first child, choosing then to stay home to care for and raise her family. Shannon relished her role as a homemaker and all the duties it entailed. She was deeply involved in all of her children’s activities, from football to dance and everything in between. Shannon also cherished achieving the title of Mama Corn to her grands.

Shannon was a dedicated member of Washington Street Church of Christ, where she was highly involved in both the children’s and ladies’ ministries over the years. She loved sewing, crafting, crocheting, and quilting, and she joyfully shared those skills by teaching other women at church. She lovingly crocheted a blanket for every new baby born into the congregation and loved organizing crafts for VBS and church camp. Shannon’s kindness shone through everything she did; she was well-known for writing letters of encouragement and also volunteered her time at the Crossroads Pregnancy Clinic.

Shannon passed away on June 11, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. Extremely sweet, kind, and caring, she will be deeply missed by everyone who had the joy of knowing her.

Survivors include her husband, Allen Alcorn; children, Joe-Allen (Ann) Alcorn, A.J. Alcorn, Allison (Crutcher) Ezell, and Ashlen Alcorn; grandchildren, Rudy Bartlett Alcorn and Joe Barrett Alcorn; her parents, Thomas and Lucy Taylor; and brothers, Shawn Taylor and Lloyd Taylor.

Memorial donations may be made to the Washington Street Church of Christ, P.O. Box 324, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or the Crossroads Pregnancy Clinic, 1327 Huntsville Highway, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

Higgins Funeral Home is privileged to offer comfort, care, and support to the family of Shannon-Michelle Jean Taylor Alcorn.

I met Shannon during my teaching days. I taught three of her four children. She volunteered each time to help in the classroom. I could always depend on Shannon. Shannon had such a sweet and pleasant personality. If I felt down, I would always feel uplifted after a little conversation with her. I will miss her.

Shannon was always full of joy and kindness. I remember first meeting her during Ashlen’s jr pro basketball days and later was blessed to have her volunteer with us at Crossroads Pregnancy Clinic. She was so loving, kind, and supportive – a treasure to all who were blessed to know her. Thank you Lord for blessing my life with this sweet lady.

People like Shannon Alcorn are a rarity these days. I cannot count the times over the years that she has made me a treat or sent me a message or offered a sweet word of encouragement. Those things did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Even when she was sick, she continued to minister to folks. When the good Lord said that we should love and minister as He did, Shannon paid attention. My prayer is that we all can live and love as Shannon did. May peace and understanding flow freely to her family.
