Obituary

A funeral mass for SGM Ret. Eugene Francis Emanuel, US Army, age 83, of Fayetteville, TN will be held at 1pm at St Anthony Catholic Church on Thursday, December 22, 2022, with Rev. Fr. George Panthananickal, C.M.I. Pastor presiding. Inurnment will take place at the St Anthony Catholic Church Columbarium.

Gene was born July 19, 1939, in Fort Collins, CO to the late Albert Peter and Margaret Magdaline Rumery Emanuel. He retired from the US Army after 26 years of service. Gene had a love for his country and his fellow man and dedicated most of his life in serving others. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 413, DAV, Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge, St Raphael Council Knights of Columbus, Cresco Masonic Lodge, and he also volunteered for Lincoln Medical Center and the Good Samaritan Association. Gene passed away at his home December 19, 2022, with family at his side.

Survivors include his wife Carolyn Bender Emanuel; children, Debra Lynn (Bruce) Balsama of Fayetteville, Donna Ann (Duane) Fields of Warner Robins, GA; Lori Renee Daniel of Jackson, CA, Tracey Eugene Emanuel of Sitka, AK, David Michael Emanuel of Scotrun, PA, Nicole Jeannine Emanuel of Ball, LA; grandchildren, Matthew (Laura) Emanuel, Devon Balsama, Casey (Mitch) Moehring, Ryanne (Joel) Wiener, Amelia Daniel, Catherine Daniel, Naomi Daniel, Philip Johnson; great-grandchildren, Maxwell Moehring, Milo Moehring, Emilee Emanuel, Wesley Emanuel, and Ryker Johnson. In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his eleven siblings, Maurice Emanuel, James Emanuel, Robert Emanuel, Rita McCormick, Mary Wofford, Norbert Emanuel, Paul Emanuel, Leo Emanuel, Albert Emanuel, and Peter J. Emanuel.

Visitation with the family will be from 4pm until 6pm on Wednesday, December 21 at Higgins Funeral Home with Rosary Service at 6pm. Memorial donations may be made to St Anthony Catholic Church, 1900 Huntsville Hwy, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or Good Samaritan Association, 208 Davidson Street W, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

    As the last of my uncles Uncle Gene will be greatly missed. He and his next youngest brother Uncle Pete who also recently passed were less than 10 years older than myself and for years felt more like brothers. So many happy memories.
