Ruth Tabb Daves (93 years old) of Plantation, Florida passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019. Ruth was born in Petersburg, TN to the late Cowan and Leon Phillips on September 10, 1925. She was married to her first husband Roy Raymond Tabb on February 20, 1947 in Nashville, TN. Seventeen years after the death of her first husband, Ruth married Donald Daves on October 25, 2003 in Atlanta, GA.
Ruth graduated high school from Morgan Prep in Petersburg, TN in 1943 and went on to attend Business College in Nashville, TN. After completing her school, Ruth worked at the railroad in Nashville, TN for 10 years before relocating to Atlanta, GA in 1962 . She was involved in her Church and community in Atlanta while raising her family.
Ruth was survived by her son Ron Tabb (wife Becky Tabb); step daughters Nancy Daves, Alison Stokes and Pat Cone; step son Buck Daves; her nieces and nephew Rhonda Graham (husband Chris) and Kim Phillips Wood (Alan), Sue Phillips Monk, Cathy Phillips Raby and Jimmy Phillips; her grandchildren Kristen McDonald (husband Scott), Kelly Sheehan (husband Brian), Meagan Tabb Lundgren (husband Dan), Karlee Tabb and Courtney Tabb; step grandchildren Chris Stokes, Leann Stokes Lusco (husband Alex Lusco), Matthew Wesley Cone (wife: Meridith Cone) and Brock Daves. Her great grandchildren Avery McDonald, Logan McDonald, Graysen Sheehan and Caroline Sheehan.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father and mother Cowan and Leon Phillips, Her first husband Roy Raymond Tabb and second husband Donald Daves; her daughter Patty Reilly; her siblings Curtis Phillips, Dortha Patterson Weaver, and Burl Phillips.
A memorial Service will be held at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6th at 11:00AM. She will be buried in Petersburg, TN at a later date.
The family of Ruth Tabb Daves wished to extend our sincere thanks to Chan Latchman who Ruth adored and stayed by her side in her last days, Vitas Healthcare who took such wonderful care of her while in hospice care, and our loving church family (First Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale) for supporting us with prayer and loving kindness during this journey.
Graveside funeral service for Mrs. Daves will be conducted at 11 AM on Monday, April 8, 2019, at Old Orchard Cemetery in Petersburg, TN. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family with local arrangements.
