Funeral services for Mrs. Rachel Newgent Nichols, age 86, of Flintville will be conducted at 2 PM Friday at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Timothy Britton officiating. Internment will be at 4 PM in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Shelbyville beside her first husband Frank Bumgardner. Mrs. Nichols passed away Tuesday evening at Lincoln Medical Center.

A daughter of the late Robert Lee and Bertha Mae Towry Newgent, she was a native of Lincoln County, formerly employed with Dixie Home Foods, retired from Tyson, and a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include son Danny Gardner of Elora, daughter Sandra Anderson of Franklin County, sons Stanley “Coke” Bumgardner of Bedford County,  Johnny Bumgardner of Fayetteville,  and Joe Bumgardner of Flintville, daughters Cindy Wright of Wartrace, and Sherry Ivey of Fayetteville, 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, brothers Marshall, William E., and Granville Newgent all of Lincoln County.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Thursday evening at Higgins Funeral Home.
