Obituary

Memorial service for Mrs. Norma Jean McKinney, age 88, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Whitney Mitchell and Rev. Ann Hatcher officiating. Mrs. McKinney passed away peacefully Friday evening, June 15, 2018, surrounded by loving family and friends at her home after an extended illness.

Born March 12, 1930, the daughter of the late James Grover and Vergie Mae Neely Carr, Norma was a native of Springfield TN, a banker, loving wife and mother. Norma began a long and devoted career with Fayetteville’s Union National Bank working along the way to become a Vice President at the time of her retirement in 1991. One of Norma’s special joys was her participation in member activities at Fayetteville’s First United Methodist Church, particularly more than 50 active years in their Chancel Choir and Sunday School.

In addition to her parents, Norma was also preceded in death by her husband James L. McKinney in December 2010 and son Arthur Clair “Tripp” Elder, III in January 2011. Survivors include her brother Reeves and wife Janice Carr of Fayetteville, daughter-in-law Carolynn Elder of Rogersville TN, stepdaughters Karen (Dallas) Thomas (their daughter Jessica) of Bozeman MT, Ann Marie (Brian) Nobes (their sons Chris, Derek, Ethan and Jared) of Kingston Springs TN, and Linda M (Billy) Archer (their children Cole and Alicia) of Panama Beach FL, granddaughters Amanda (Jeff) Crawford (their children Ava and Eli Silvers) and Jessica (Jeff) Millard (their daughters Neely and Emma) both of Rogersville, TN.

Norma also wanted to lovingly thank and recognize her special caregivers Christine Amason, Carol Taylor, Melinda Luladakes, Shirley Gibson and devoted nephew Bob (Sherrie) Maddox for their loving care and support during her last several years. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank the professional care and personal kindness received from Nancy Rader and all the staff of Lincoln Medical Home Health and Hospice.

Visitation with the family will be from 11 AM until the time of service at 1 PM Saturday, June 23, 2018. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Norma Jean McKinney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church Building or Choir Funds, 200 Elk Ave North, Fayetteville TN 37334.
