Obituary

Funeral service for Ms. Mattie Lou Smith age 92, of Fayetteville, will be conducted Friday September 2, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with David Burney officiating, and order of the Eastern Star Rites. Burial will follow in Wright’s Cemetery. Ms. Smith passed away August 30, 2016.

A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late William T. and Mary Lou Davis Smith. Ms. Smith was retired from NASA. She was an active member of the Eastern Star, and was very active in other civics organizations, and a member of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her cousins Betty (Barry) Burney of Murfreesboro, TN, Robert (Alice) Smith of Birmingham, AL, Billy (Janice) Davis; special friend Pat McCloud; numerous cousins; and many friends.

Visitation with the family will be Friday September 2, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.

    Ms. Mattie was a joy and I was honored to be able to care for her at Southern Manor. She always had that beautiful smile on her face every time I seen her. We all loved her @ Southern Manor. RIP my dear sweet lady.
