Mrs. Martha Ann Waid Nichols, age 93, passed this life on April 14, 2022, at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on June 18, 1928, in Petersburg, TN to the late Wilburn and Evelyn Waid. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Henry (Heck) Nichols; her son, George Nichols; infant daughter, Gladys Estelle; son-in-law, Ronnie Vanhoozer; grandson, Andrew Posey; two brothers, Joe and Bill Waid.
She is survived by her three daughters, Penny and George Robinson, Sandra and Richard Posey, and Charlotte VanHoozer; daughter-in-law, Gwyn Nichols; sister, Peggie Wells; adopted daughter, Carolyn White; grandchildren, Wade Nichols, Kyle Nichols, Deana and David Fox, Joiya and Steven Posey, Jeannie and John McDole, Jodie Robinson and Erron, James Fikes, Telisha Moore, Joseph and Lexie VanHoozer, April and Caleb Wharton, Jennifer VanHoozer, Tiffany and Shaquille Bankston, Mark and Danielle Posey, Chris White; great-grandchildren, Noah Nichols, Nicki Fox, Cassie Fox, Allie Fox, Aniyah Posey, Steven Posey, Kingston McDole, Pharoah McDole, Livi Jackson, Erron Jackson Jr., Eryn Fikes, Henry VanHoozer, Jaxon VanHoozer, Alayna Morrison, Ava Morrison, Jacob Wharton, Charlee Wharton, Carter Bankston, Michael Posey, Samantha Richards, Savannah Posey; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Nichols was a homemaker who offered a community service of providing day care to many families. She loved all the children she cared for and each one held a special place in her heart. Mrs. Nichols was baptized in the Church of Christ and later attended Berean Way Baptist Church. She was known for her infectious smile and pleasant disposition. She will be missed by all.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Watts officiating. Burial will follow in Old Orchard Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Monday, April 18 at Higgins.

My name is Rick Waid and am a cousin of Martha Ann. My Dad, Richard, myself and family would visit Martha Ann’s mother, Evelyn, every summer in July, when her mother lived in Shelbyville TN. On those trips we visited Martha Ann and Heck in Alabama. In later years she visited my Dad in Texas and Arizona. She was such a kind lady and will be missed.
