Funeral service for Mrs. Marian Askins Grant, age 84, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 4:00 PM on Sunday, April 29, 2018, at Higgins funeral Home with Bro. Jim Black and Dr. David McCauley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held 2 hours prior to service at 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
Mrs. Grant was born on March 26, 1934 in Lincoln County, TN to the late David and Iris Archer Askins. Marian attended college at Middle Tennessee Teachers College (now Middle Tennessee State University) for 2 years before finishing her degree at University of Tennessee Chattanooga. She then taught in Chattanooga for 15 years before moving back to Fayetteville to teach at Ralph Askins for 25 more years. Outside of teaching, Marian enjoyed getting to travel and took great pleasure in visiting the beach. She was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ for many years. Mrs. Grant passed away on April 27, 2018 at her residence.
Survivors include her husband, Bruce Grant; son, David (Carol) Grant of Fayetteville, TN; grandson, Payton Grant of Franklin, TN; sister, Myra Askins and friend, Carol Hardin; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Askins and Marie Cummins, and twin grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Washington Street Church of Christ Honduras Fund at PO Box 324, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.

My children would come to the car proudly wearing the lipstick stain from their afternoon kiss goodbye from the beautiful teacher with the flower in her hair. She was a wonderful lady who touched so many young lives in such a positive way. Thinking of you all.
