Obituary

Funeral service for Margaret Gilliam, age 99 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Sunday at 2 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Kelso Cemetery. Mrs. Gilliam passed away Wednesday in Donalson Care Center.
A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Eddie Guy and Leona Hunter Thompson. Mrs. Gilliam was a former secretary of Cuyahoga County Welfare and Red Cross Office and a member of the Fayetteville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Naomi Rebekah Lodge # 68, VFW Auxiliary Post 2167 and worked for the Lincoln County Red Cross office in the 1970’s.
Survivors include two sisters Dorene Rogers of Fayetteville, Joyce (Joe) Payne of Nashville, special friends Vernell and James Pressnell, niece and nephew Mary and Bobby Poole and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husbands George Hoyt and Joe Gilliam, sisters Carrie Dickey, Geneva Clark and brother James (Jack) Thompson.
Visitation with the family will be Sunday 12-2 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.

    Ms. Gilliam was an inspiration to me. How she lived independently up into her nineties. She was intelligent, positive, and lived each day with grace. I enjoyed our visits, as I delivered meals to her in 2011 – 2012.

    I am so sorry Ms. Gilliam passed away. She was my favorite patient. I loved her so much. I wish I could be there . But l am off work sick. she was always smiling.I always thought she reminded me own mother. I always called her my mother. she was always so thoughtful, and wanting to help. That the way my mother was. Mrs. Gilliam was very intelligent. A good Christain woman. She will be missed very much. l will always remember her. Sherry pollly nures assistant at Lincoln care
