Funeral service for Mrs. Mable Lucille Land Bates (Aunt Bumpy), age 86, of Fayetteville, TN will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Bates officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband, Luther Ellis Bates, in Stewart’s Cemetery.
Mrs. Bates was born on December 28, 1931 in Lincoln County, TN to the late Carl Royal and Ocie Mae Carter Land. She worked as a presser for Blue Ridge Shirt Company. She loved crocheting and solving word puzzles. Mrs. Bates passed away on March 21, 2018 at Donalson Care Center.
Survivors include her sons, Troy (Cindy) and Roger (Denise) Bates all of Fayetteville, TN; daughter, Annette (late Bob) Jefferson of Leavenworth, KS; grandchildren, Alicia (Tim) Schafer, Amanda Bates, Angie (Brian) Passon, Jason (Stephanie) Bates, Bobby Jefferson, and Chrissy Jefferson; 22 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Patton and Mildred Russell; brothers, Carl, Fred, Virgil, Howard, Junior and Ross Land; and grandchild, Carol Bates.
Visitation with the family will be held at 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, March 23, 2018, at Higgins funeral Home. Higgins is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Mable Bates.
