Obituary

It is with regret that we announce the passing of Mrs. Letha Doyce Dickinson, age 82, of Fayetteville, TN. Doyce was born on April 16, 1938 in Yellville, AR to the late Alva and Rebecca Weiher Johnson. She passed away on June 13, 2020 at Donalson Care Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Doyce was a member of Genesis Methodist Church (formerly, State Line Methodist Church). She attended the School of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri and graduated with an Associates of Science Degree. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway majoring in Physical Education and Health. Doyce completed her post graduate work at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, receiving her Master’s Degree in Physical Education. She worked as a Physical Education Teacher and coached track, volleyball, drill team, swimming, and diving. She also taught ballroom dancing at the collegiate level. She was a great synchronized swimmer and enjoyed teaching her students. Mrs. Dickinson could often be found sewing, doing puzzles or volunteering with Carriage House Players theatre group. She had a kind spirit, always had a smile, and loved people. She also had an endearing love for animals. Doyce left her teaching career early for the greatest job of all time, raising her family.

Survivors include her daughter, Sebreta Leronica Dickinson-Segerson and husband, Michael of Madison, AL; son, Derron Andrew Dickinson and wife, Danielle of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Raegan Elise Segerson, Ryland Michael Segerson, Tristan Arivett, Landyn Dickinson, and Ronin Dickinson; and a brother, Donald Wayne Johnson and wife, Shirley of Norwood, MO. In addition to her parents, Doyce was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lee Dickinson; and siblings, Larsh, Olaf, J.V., and E.J. Johnson, Hester Johnson Lee and Viva Johnson Billings.

A graveside service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens, with Rev. David Karr officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fayetteville – Lincoln County Animal Shelter, PO Box 37, Fayetteville, TN 37334

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Letha Doyce Dickinson.

Although I haven’t seen Doyce since I was 16 years old which is nearly 30 years ago, I’ve never forgotten her. I will always remember her kindness. It wasn’t born of good manners or politeness. Her heart was full of kindness and a love for others. I hope that kindness and love lives on in all who knew her.

Our sweet Doyce and Ron were like parents to me. We traveled to see them shortly after we married. Every place they lived we were welcomed. Doyce and I loved going to yard sales, resale shops, etc. Even when she had a difficult time getting around. We spent hours into the night talking, solving the world’s problems. She had a fierce love for her family. I’ll miss our wonderful meals together. She loved Bluebell icecream!!! Most of all I’ll remember her love for her Lord. What a joy to know she was told, welcome my good and faithful servant! Janie and Jim Hughes

Doyce was an absolute treat and will forever be a part of my memories. When we all lived out in the country in Augusta, Kansas, I absolutely loved getting that phone call that she had made another batch of no-bake cookies, lol. Sometimes, I would beat Sebreta to her own house to eat them. Her name passes my lips at least once a month when my mother-in-law gives me a call to let me know she has made some no-bake cookies. I know my mother-in-law has heard the story a thousand times but I always tell it again.
Doyce made a difference in this world. Doyce left it a better, kinder place. She will definitely be missed here. But, I’m sure God will delight in her presence. What a joy it was to have known her.
Love you, Doyce. I’ll see you in a few years.
