Funeral service for Joel Thomas Garrett, Jr., age 63, of Fayetteville, TN will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Van Massey officiating. Burial will follow in Talley Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 1pm until the time of the service on Tuesday at Higgins.

Joel was born May 9, 1961, in Marshall County, TN. He was of the Church of Christ faith and worked as a real estate broker for many years. Joel enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles in his shop, and many hours were spent there with his friends. In his earlier years, he played bass guitar in a band and loved riding his Harley Davidson and went by the nickname “Road Dog.” His greatest love was his family, especially being Granddad. He loved picking the grandkids up after school and their trips to McDonald’s. Joel always thought of his family and their needs before his own. He passed away May 16, 2024, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, AL.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Julie Warner Garrett; mother, Alice Woodard Garrett; daughter, Lura Black and husband Justin; grandchildren, Mason and Avery Black; brother, Alan Garrett and wife Tammy; sister, Pamela Joan Presnell and husband Ricky; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Joel was preceded in death by his father Joel Thomas Garrett, Sr.
