Funeral service for Mr. Joe Lawton Smartt, age 86, of Fayetteville, TN will be conducted at 1 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Higgins Funeral Home. Bro. Eric Reynolds, Madison Quick, and Kathleen Marr will officiate. Burial will follow in the Prosperity Cemetery, beside his wife Viola Tucker Smartt.
Joe was born on December 23, 1932 in the Molino, TN to the late Lawton Manley and Mary Magdalene Bates Smartt. He served in the US Air Force and was a member of the South Fayetteville Church of Christ. Mr. Smartt was always fixing something and worked as a mechanic for Rambo Motor Company and the Lincoln County Highway Department. Joe passed away on October 5, 2019 at his residence.
Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia Ables and husband Mike; granddaughters, Hollie Miles and husband Thomas, Heidi Ables, Valorie Mitchell, and Jessica Stinson and husband Matthew; great-granddaughters, Lillian Johnson and Lillian Rush; great-grandsons Lawton Norton, Roman Miles, Mattias Stinson, Gaberiel Mitchell, and Anthony Stinson; and several extended family members which called him “Papa Joe.” In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Smartt was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Rene Mitchell.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 7 PM on Monday, October 7, 2019 at Higgins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Prosperity Cemetery Association, c/o Steve Weber, 191 Curtis Road, Fayetteville, TN 37334. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Joe Lawton Smartt.
Mr & Mrs Smart were so kind to the Croom family. We love and will miss them both dearly.
