Obituary

Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Thornton, age 70 of Petersburg, will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Don Hudson and Bro. Ed Templeton officiating. Burial will follow in Wright’s Cemetery. Mr. Thornton passed away Tuesday morning at his residence.

A native of Lincoln County he was the son of the late Odie B.Thornton and Gladys Bevels Thornton who survives. Mr. Thornton retired from Teledyne after forty-three years as Maintenance Tech, and was a member of the Fayetteville First Presbyterian Church. He loved restoring antique cars and horse back-riding.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years Barbara Endsley Thornton, son Richard (Pam) Thornton, daughter Becky (Red) Davis, grandchildren Dustin and Destiny Thornton, Justin and Trent Davis all of Petersburg, two sisters Carol (Ed) Templeton of Knoxville, Patricia Ann (Lynn) Scott of Fayetteville, several nieces, nephews and two aunts. Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by a sister Linda Marie Fears.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday evening 4-8 pm at Higgins Funeral Home.
