Funeral services for Jean Swinford, age 73 of Taft, will be conducted Friday at 2 PM at Higgins Funeral Home with burial to follow in Kirkland Cemetery beside her husband William Edward Swinford who passed away in 2006. Mrs. Swinford passed away Wednesday morning in Huntsville Hospital.
A native of Athens, AL, Mrs. Swinford was the daughter of the late Edward Issac and Katie Lee Thomas Hamaker. She was a member of the Wells Hill Church of Christ and was employed at Serbin for 16 years. For many years, Mrs. Swinford hung wallpaper, did housework and baked for the needy and her community.
Survivors include three sons, Jeff Swinford of Fayetteville, Tony Swinford and wife Lereca of Taft, Scott Swinford and wife Alice of Taft, grandchildren Krystal Clark, DeWayna Shelton, Zack Swinford, Kevin Swinford, great-grandchildren Kasen Clark and Avery Mae Shelton, sister Connie Bolling and three brothers Dean, Dwight and Roger Hamaker.
Visitation with the family will be Thursday evening 4-8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

We only knew Jean for a short time, but she made a great impact in our lives. She was a warm, thoughtful person whom made you feel welcome from the minute you met her. She will be missed. To her family remember the good times during these trying times. May God be with you.
So sorry for yall boys but your mom was a great person who meant a lot to me and so many more people she was a wonderful person always helping others and needed help herself but wanting to help others don’t know how she did the thinks she did heaven gained a wonderful Christian lady just ask God to bless yall and keep yall in his care IN CHRISTIAN LOVE KAY HORTON

She was such a special niece to me. She called me every morning and I am certainly going to miss her.

Never saw a person who had such a bright sparkle in her eyes and a love for life and doing things for others. She has influenced me in so many good ways and was a valuable part of my life. Many good warm memories to cherish and the things she taught me by example. Thanks Mrs. Jean for all the wonderful things you are to so many. Our lives have been so blessed in knowing you.
