On Thursday, August 15, 2019, Janchai (Narkpoklang) Layne, loving wife, mother, and friend passed away.
Janchai was born on October 3, 1944, in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), Thailand. She graduated from the Suranaree Wittaya School. Janchai married Clarence David Layne while he was stationed at the Korat RTAFB and later immigrated to the United States in 1973. Janchai moved to Fayetteville, TN in 1980 and was a volunteer at the Lincoln County Hospital gift shop and an avid member of the Newcomer’s Club, where she met many lifelong friends. Janchai was a talented gardener who tended her large vegetable garden, fruit trees, and vines; her homemade wine won many blue ribbons at the Lincoln County Fair. She loved cooking, needlework with her regular knitting group and exercising at the Senior Center. Janchai was a familiar face and fixture at Cahoots restaurant where she was employed for 27 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Layne of Fayetteville, TN. She is survived by her daughter, Hthaiwon Layne and son-in-law, Jay Bernasconi of Boston, MA; sisters, Jurailux Narkpoklang of Nonthaburi, Thailand and Thanom Suebkha of Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her two beloved grandchildren, Gryphon and Isadora of Boston, MA.
A celebration of life will be held on September 29 from 1-3 pm at Cahoot’s Restaurant. The family will hold a private burial for both David and Janchai at the Massachusetts National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Janchai would have appreciated donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, the National Immigration Law Center or to your local animal rescue league.
RIP Sunshine. Loved exercising with you at Sr. Center. Sympathy to your family.
Cordelia Tanner , Sr. Center.
An honor to have know Mrs Layne. Such a kind and generous lady. Memories of her fried green tomatoes and several knit scarves given to me over the years.
