James Walter Rowell, age 94, of Taft died Sunday March 21, 2010. He was born September 7, 1915 and was a life-long resident of Lincoln County, TN.

He was the son of Rosker Odie Rowell and Myrtle Ann Jones Rowell.  His grandfather was Milton Neeley Rowell, a CSA veteran of the Civil War.  His great-grandfather was William Jacob Rowell, a school teacher and wagon builder at Taft.  His great-great-grandfather was William Rowell, born 1770 in South Carolina, who settled in the Coldwater area prior to the establishment of Lincoln County in 1809.

James served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.  He was a member of Kirkland Baptist Church.  He worked at Borden Milk Company and Amana for many years.  He was a cabinet maker.  Over the years, he raised hogs and cattle on his farm.  He loved horses and enjoyed training bird dogs and quail hunting.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years Mary Frances Hopkins Rowell, two half-brothers Russell and Floyd Rowell, half-sister Thelma Rowell Dale, brother William Marvin Rowell, sister Annie Sue Rowell Simms.

He is survived by his son James Randall Rowell (Dolores), daughter Carolyn Sue Caudle (Dwight), two brothers Raymond Baugh Rowell and Lawrence Milton Rowell, four grandchildren Amy Rowell, Matthew Caudle, Jennifer Caudle Kiser, and Molly Caudle Fincher, four great-grandchildren Katie Caudle, John Owen Caudle, Lucy Kiser, and Jack Fincher, and Army buddy and best friend Richard Bellis, age 89, of Flintville.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Mark and David for their frequent visits, help, and assistance over the past several years.  At times you entertained him, at times you irritated him-both emotions gave him encouragement for another day.  May God greatly bless you both.

Visitation will be held at Higgins Funeral Home from 5-8 PM Wednesday March 24.  Services will be at 10 AM Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Tim Smith officiating.  Burial will follow at Blanche Cemetery.
