Obituary

Graveside service for Mr. James S. Mathis, age 90, of Fayetteville, will be conducted Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 3 p.m. in Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens with Bro. Don Russell of Parks City Baptist Church and Bro. F. Murray Mathis of Murfreesboro, TN officiating. Mr. Mathis passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at his residence.

Mr. Mathis was a native of Fayetteville, TN, the son of the late John P. and Janie Brazelton Mathis. He was a truck driver for Genesco, a US Marine, member of the Marine Corp League, and a 60 year member of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife Frances Vann Mathis of Fayetteville, sons Steve Mathis of Fayetteville, Van Mathis of Smyrna, TN, daughters Teresa Owen of New Market, AL, Chris Land of Westland, MI, grandchildren Stephanie Skeen and husband Steve of Wayne, MI, Justin Mathis and wife Ashleigh of Fayetteville, Jason Mathis and wife Stephanie of Cumming, GA, John Virjan of Westland, MI, Jamie Virjan of Detroit, MI, Rob Mathis of Smyrna, TN, sister Ethel Appling of Chattanooga, TN, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Visitation with the family will be Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home.

Members of the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital.
