Funeral services for Mr. James G. (Azo) Brown, age 85, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 1 PM Monday at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Jones and Rev. Kirk Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Lincoln Cemetery Mr. Brown passed away Saturday evening at Centennial Medical Center.
A native of Lincoln County, he was a son of the late Horace and Lucy Ann Marshall Brown, retired from the telephone company, and a small business owner. Mr. Brown was a US Army Veteran serving in WWII in the 101st Airborne Division 501 Regiment. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and the invasion of Normandy. He earned numerous medals including the Purple Heart. He was a member of Lincoln Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Glyn Brown of Fayetteville, step-sons Terry Cowley of Fayetteville and Nickey Cowley of Meridianville, granddaughters Tammy Smartt and husband Barry of Flintville and Tabitha Vanns and husband Kenny of Thompson Station, TN, and great-grandchildren Cole Smartt of Flintville, Colin, Alexis, and Olivia Vanns all of Thompson Station., and four nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother.
Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Sunday evening at Higgins Funeral Home.
