Obituary

Mr. Ivey M. Laird of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday afternoon at Lincoln Medical Center.

A native of Pelham, Georgia, Mr. Laird was the son of the late Chan Iverson and Anne Louise Harvey Laird. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the 259th Infantry Regiment U.S. Army during WW II and saw action in Europe. While stationed in Huntsville, Alabama at the end of the war, he met and married his wife of 68 years, Vivian Baucom.

Beginning his business career in banking, Mr. Laird served as a bank examiner while living in Statesboro, Georgia and Birmingham, Alabama. Ultimately he became a self-employed Certified Public Accountant, receiving his education at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He was a sports enthusiast who greatly enjoyed following the FSU Seminoles and the achievements of both grandsons as they played football in high school.

Mr. Laird is survived by his wife, Vivian, his daughter Deborah O’Connor (David) of Fayetteville, his grandson, Christopher O’Connor (Anna Margaret) of Fayetteville, and his grandson Preston Laird (Krissie) of Savannah, Georgia, great-grandchildren Mac and Meg O’Connor and Mary Leighton Laird. He was preceded in death by his son, Darrell Laird of Pelham, Georgia.

He was a member of the Baptist faith from his early childhood and requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Fayetteville or to the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Fayetteville.

Visitation with the family will be held at Higgins Funeral Home on Friday May 24th from 9 am until 10 am. Graveside services will follow at 10:30 am at Booneville Cemetery with Bro. Van Johnson officiating.
