Mr. Horace “Mutt” Thompson, born October 22, 1923 went to meet the Lord on January 21, 2010. He was born and raised around Wheelerton, Dellrose and Hot Rock areas and was the son of the late Joseph Robert and Laura Hall Thompson. He was a U.S. Veteran and married fifty-three years to Virginia Mitchell Thompson who passed away November 2009. “Mutt” as he was known by all, was the youngest of six children, his sisters were Lena Carter, Ruth Roberts and Cathleen Stone Barnes and brothers Grady Thompson, Robert Jean Thompson, all preceded him in death. Mutt proudly drove a school bus many years for Boonshill School carrying children to school, games and senior trips and was an electrician. He enjoyed fishing, hunting ginseng and traveling with friends.
Survivors include nephews Joe Thompson and wife DeLois of Fayetteville, Buck Roberts and wife Faye of Bunker Hill, Earl Wayne Roberts and wife of Pulaski, and David Stone and wife Barbara of Maye, Texas, and nieces Jane Thompson Bradley, Kathy Thompson Jennings and husband Lance, Marie Evans, and Helen Harris all of Fayetteville and a host of extended family and special friends.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2PM Sunday at Shiloh Cemetery with John Sanders officiating. Visitation with the family will be Saturday evening 4-7 PM at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Shiloh Cemetery. Memorials may be mailed to Joyce Hall, 1499 Old Elkton Pike, Dellrose, TN.
