Mr. Homer Lee Horton, 97 years off age, died quietly January 20 at Donalson Care Center in Fayetteville. Mr. Horton retired from Y-12 plant in Oak Ridge in 1975. He moved from Oak Ridge to Fayetteville in April, 2002 and resided at Southern Manor Living. Mr. Horton was a member of the New York Avenue Church of Christ in Oak Ridge, TN.
He was an athlete in his younger days, having played basketball and football at Franklin County High School. In more recent years, he was known for his expertise at the billiards table.
Mr. Horton was predeceased by his wife, Mary Hardin Horton. He was born September 20, 1910 in Winchester, the son of John and Maude Horton. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Max and Dot Horton of Simsbury, Connecticut; a sister-in-law, Robbie Walker of Elora; and several nephews and nieces. Mr. Horton was especially appreciative of the attention and assistance given him by his niece and nephew, Barbara and Jim Walker.
There will be a graveside service at Mt Garner Cemetery in Decherd, Tn. Wednesday, January 23 at 2:00 pm. The family requests that any memorials be given to the donor’s charity of choice, in lieu of flowers. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of services. There will no visitation at the funeral home prior to services.
