Funeral services for Mrs. Henrietta Elizabeth Ward Callaway, age 88, of Fayetteville will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with Father Jim Rogers and Father Randy Hoover-Dempsey officiating.  Burial will follow in Cedar Hills Cemetery.  Mrs. Callaway passed away Saturday at NHC in Columbia.

A daughter of the late Walter E. and Ruby Rose Ward, she was born in East St. Louis, MO and was a native of Chicago, IL.  She was married to Samuel M. Callaway on February 28, 1946 in Roswell, NM.  She and her husband moved to Fayetteville in 1963 to make their permanent home and made many life-long friends.  She was a homemaker, an avid gardener and enjoyed playing bridge with her friends.  She was a member of the Fayetteville garden club, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church where she was a very active member.

Survivors include a son Mike Callaway of Fayetteville, daughter Shelley Callaway Hancock and husband Phillip of Columbia, grandsons Maj. Phillip Hancock, Jr. (USAF) and wife Heather of Ofallon, IL and Stuart Duane Callaway of Smyrna, great-grandchildren Benjamin Wade Hancock and Abigail Morgan Hancock of Ofallon, IL, niece Linda Gail Partridge and husband Walter of Homer, Alaska, nephew Walter E. Ward III and wife Gail of St. Louis, MO, and niece Karen Callaway and husband Tim Duncan of Dalton, GA.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Samuel M. Callaway, her brother and sister-in-law Walter E. and Virginia Billings Ward, and a nephew Robert Ward.

Visitation with the family will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday at Higgins Funeral Home.  There will be an Eastern Star service at the funeral home Wednesday at 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
