Funeral service for Mr. Hamilton Asher Helton, age 82, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 11 AM on Saturday, June 2, 2018, at Higgins Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Keith officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held Saturday from 10 AM until time of service at 11 AM.
Mr. Helton was born on July 26, 1935 in Benton, KY to the late Otis and Mollie Asher Helton. He earned his Master’s from the University of Tennessee and later retired from Intergraph Corporation in Huntsville, AL. He was a member of the Joseph Greer chapter of SAR, He was also an elder and Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church of Petersburg. Mr. Helton passed away on May 31, 2018 at Huntsville Hospital.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eleanor Helton; children, Nan (Colin) Wakefield of Fayetteville, TN, Jim (Karen) Helton of Cookeville, TN, and Jan (Kip) Davis of Maryville, TN; grandchildren, Mollie Asher (fiance Steven Giles) Wakefield of Spring Hill, TN, Johnathan Helton of Laytonsville, MD, Erin (fiance Tanner Crook) Helton of Chattanooga, TN, Katie Wakefield of Oak Ridge, TN, Rachel Helton of Alexandria, VA, Lane Davis of Maryville, TN, Bonnie Wakefield of Fayetteville, TN, Emily Helton of Knoxville, TN, and Caroline Davis of Maryville, TN; brother, Paul Helton of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Doris Brady of Knoxville, TN, Hester Fay of Knoxville, TN, Margie Carico Maryville, TN, Mary Hinkle of Knoxville, TN, and Jennie (Marshall) Hickey of Knoxville, TN; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Johnathan Gregory Helton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund, 200 N Elk Avenue, Fayetteville, TN 37334.

I’m sorry to hear of Mr. Asher’s Passing. We had many great conversations with him at McDonald’s. I will miss a great friend.
I am so blessed to have had the honor of knowing Papaw Asher. Every time I had the pleasure of being around him, he always put a smile on everyone’s face. He was always joking around, and I always looked forward to spending time with him. He will be greatly missed but definitely not forgotten.
