Graveside services for Gladys W. Bryson, age 77 of Fayetteville, will be conducted Friday at 2 PM at Pleasant View Cemetery beside her husband Joe Russell Bryson. Pastor Dezzie Fletcher will be be officiating. Mrs. Bryson passed away Tuesday at Lincoln Medical Center.
She was a native of Lincoln County and the daughter of the late James Whitaker and Charlie and Martha Shearin Woodley. Mrs. Bryson was owner/operator ow Woodley’s Barbecue and was a member of the West End Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a brother Jim Whitaker of Fayetteville, granddaughter Pamela D. Bryson of Fayetteville, two great-grandchildren Amari Bryson and Vincent Buchanan both of Fayetteville, nieces Kathy L. Bryson of Fayetteville, Velinda Gregory-Bush of Fayetteville, Shirley A. Bryson of Fayetteville, Ruby Wynn of Dayton, OH, Peggy (John) Dance of Fayetteville, Dorris (Bobby) Eddins of Fayetteville and Janice Hardin of Fayetteville, 2 nephews James G.(Sheena) Bryson Sr of Fayetteville and Thomas Bryson of St. Louis, MO, favorite cousins Alice (Eugene) Jones of Dayton OH and Betty Jo Bryson of Fayetteville, special friends Betty Humphrey, Bobbie Roseboro, Edith Bonner, Jewell Harper and Jackie Bryson all of Fayetteville, daughter-in-law Dorothy Bryson of Huntsville, AL, Mrs. Bryson was preceded in death by a son Darrell Bryson and brothers Donald Bryson and Nathanial Shearin.
Visitation with the family will be Friday from 11 am until 2 pm at Higgins Funeral Home.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to my family in the loss of Aunt Gladys. He was such a wonderful lady. She will be greatly missed. Ms. Gladys was part of the bloodline that created a distinct culture in Fayetteville that will not be soon forgotten. She may seem far away but she will live on in our many many memories.
