Funeral service for Mr. Gary T. Shockley, age 66, of Flintville, will be conducted Wednesday at 1:00 pm in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Keller and Richard Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. Mr. Shockley passed away Saturday in St. Thomas Hospital.
Mr. Shockley was a native of Lincoln County, the son of the late Ernest A. Shockley and Vera M. Hudson Sewell, who survives. He was retired from the Department of Defense as a Documentation Specialist for Configuration Management, was an Army Veteran with the 101st Airborne and a member of the Smithland Community Church.
Survivors include his wife Carroll L. Thompson Shockley of Flintville, son Dion Shockley of Elora, daughter Mandy Allen and husband Joseph of Flintville, grandchildren Alexis and Jackson Allen of Flintville, mother Vera M. Sewell of Midlothian, IL, brothers Wayne Shockley and wife Gail of Hazel Green, AL, Michael Sewell and wife Linda of Marion, IN, sister Judy Doyle and husband Gary of Midlothian, IL, 2 nieces, 4 nephews, 2 great nieces and 2 great nephews.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday evening from 5 until 8 pm and Wednesday from 9 am until 1:00 pm at Higgins Funeral Home.
Thank You all for the heartfelt sympathy and especially your prayers, some men leave their mark on the world by the way they live , they can make a difference and touch many, I knew he was that man and I am so proud to have been Gary’s wife because he was one of these men. We feel such sorrow and loss that will always be with us, we were given a gift by Gary’s love. Time gives us the healing power of his memory.
