Freda Annette Brooks Monks, 82, of Lincoln County, Tennessee, passed away January 27, 2024, at Maury Regional Medical Center. Freda was born November 22, 1941, in Madison County, Alabama to the late A.D. Brooks and Grace Winsett Brooks.
Freda graduated from Flintville High School in 1960. She was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church and enjoyed listening to traditional Christian hymns and gospel music. Her beautiful flowers have been shared by so many friends passing by her home over the decades. She took great joy in preparing favorite recipes for her growing family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Thomas Newsom Monks; daughter Tanya (Jay) Wilson; sons Tim (Janet) Monks, Tony Monks, Teddy (Kim) Monks, and Todd Monks; grandchildren Ashton Monks (Chris Marshall), Megan (Luke) McAlister, David Monks, Colton Monks, Callie Monks, Alexander Monks, and Carter Monks; brothers Jerry (Ann) Brooks and Rick Brooks; sister Carol (Daniel) Dickey; and sister-in-law Linda (Larry) Flanagan.
In addition to her parents, Freda was preceded in death by her brother Carl Dwayne Brooks and his wife Linda.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 3, 2024, in the chapel of Higgins Funeral Home, with Ronald Arrick officiating and Chad Hancock leading music. Visitation will be from noon until 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A private burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in the Vanntown community.

I was one of freda’s teachers at Flintville highschool in 1957. She was a kind and sweet young lady then as she always remained throughout her life. Newsom and sons, your memories will always be good.

Newsom, children and grandchildren. So so sorry to learn of Freda’s passing. We all had so many good times from childhood thru being next door neighbors when our children were small.
