Obituary

It is with regret we announce the passing of Ernest G. Hardin, age 88, of Flintville, TN. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at Higgins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Elora Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5 pm until 8 pm on Friday, January 22, 2022, with Masonic Services to be held at 7 pm.

Ernest was born June 11, 1933, in Plevna, AL to the late Gordon and Minnie Stovall Hardin. He was a veteran of the Air Force and served during the Korean War, and he obtained a transportation degree from Moraine College in Palos Heights, IL. Ernest worked for many years as a railroad Brakeman, Yardmaster and Trainmaster for the Grand Trunk Railroad. He enjoyed playing the guitar and working in his yard, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. Ernest passed away January 17, 2022, at Southern Tennessee Health in Winchester.

Survivors include his children, Sherry Fleming and Michael (Veronica) Hardin; grandchildren, Brian (Elaine) Woods, Ross (Linda) Fleming, Teegan Hardin, Ryan Hardin, and Rylee Hardin; great-grandchildren Samantha Woods, Nicholas Woods, Ivan Cabrales, Bella Cuellar and Asiias Fleming; great-great-granddaughter, Ella; sisters, Stella Mills, Lynda Gail Smith (Barry Dean) Scott, and Betty Sue Smith (Don) Nelson; and his beloved dog, Rainy. In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Ernestine “Teen” Hardin; and grandson, Matthew Fleming.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Processing, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
