Obituary

Funeral mass for Mrs. Elaine Pullos McClure, age 86, of Springfield, IL will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Saint Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, TN, with Rev. Jason Terhune officiating. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL with Dean Andrew Hook officiating. Mrs McClure passed away November 12, 2016 at Bailey Manor in Fayetteville, TN.

Mrs. McClure was a true adventurer, born to Greek immigrants, she traveled all 50 states, camped in a dozen National Parks, conquered the Rockies with both a Jeep and a fly fishing pole, and traveled across Europe so much that her passport looked like abstract art from all the stamps. She was a painter and a pianist, she built doll houses and was a state champion-level woodcut artist. Her spanikopita made kids actually want to eat their vegetables, her baklava could make grown men weep with joy, and her dolmades… oh her dolmades… Let’s just say her dolmades taught you that God is real, and he can take the form of small, grape leaf-wrapped food.

Mrs. McClure was the daughter of the late Alex and Fotini Bairaktaris Pullos. Survivors include her daughter Jo Elaine Goldasich of Fayetteville, TN; son Charles Neal McClure of Springfield, IL; grandchildren Michelle (Joshua) Perry, Heather (Joshua) Asche, Stephen McClure, Jr., Bettany McClure, Kevin Goldasich, and Alex McClure; great-grandchilren Parker Asche, Fernando Hutchinson, Carter Asche, Madeline Perry, and Daniel McClure; brothers Vlash (Dina) Pullos of CA, Andrew Pullos of Reno, NV, and George (Sheila) Pullis of Naperville, IL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McClure was preceded in death by her husband Zell Murray McClure and son Stephen McClure, Sr.

Visitation with the family will be 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church.

Elaine was a dear friend! We met at St. Paul’s in Springfield, IL. We went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land together and in her last years in Springfield we attended church together. She was a very special lady! She had a deep faith. Great sense of humor and feisty to the end. I will miss her very much but I know she is at peace with the Lord. My deepest sympathy to Jo and Chuck and all the family!
