Funeral services for Mr. Edward Merle Miller, age 68, of Taft, will be conducted on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at 11 AM at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. David England officiating. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery with Military Honors.
Ed Miller was called to Heaven as he passed away peacefully on November 25, 2017 at his residence. Ed was born on August 6, 1949 in Palestine, IL to the late E. Merle and Ruth Kathleen Duncan Miller. Ed had a lot of interesting childhood memories to share, while growing up in Flat Rock IL. He was quite a story teller and a most interesting person to be around and listen to. He served in the US Army in Vietnam with the 5th Infantry receiving a rank of spec 5 and also was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a member of the VVA, DAV, the American Legion and VFW.
He had an Associate’s Degree in Electronics Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Athens State College.
He worked in Sales and Marketing for several companies throughout his career where he traveled extensively in the US and abroad.
He was passionate about sports and coached his kids in softball and baseball thru the YMCA and grade school programs. Even though he was unable to attend events in later years he always kept up with how the grandkids were doing. He loved the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. They always brought him extreme joy.
He was one who always seemed to bring the family together when his children were younger. There were countless fish fries, family whiffle ball games, 4th of July fireworks, swims in the pond on hot summer days, camping trips, arrowhead hunts, more arrowhead hunts and many other great adventures. He had high expectations of his children, but he was also their biggest fan. The last several years grew harder for him to be physically involved in his grandkids lives but he never failed to mention how proud he was of them. He will be greatly missed. His stories, his late night and early morning talks and phone calls, his strong need to share his opinion, and his crazy eating habits will all be missed, but his love for his family will be missed the most.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Janet Marie Harms Miller; son, Jeff (Dosha) Miller of Hazel Green; daughter, Mindy (Jeremiah) Pierson of Canada; grandchildren, Zac and Marae Miller, and Sydnee, Abi and Tanner Pierson; brother, Bill (Jan) Miller and a sister, Wilma (Kenneth) Henson.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Sandy Knotts.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Higgins Funeral Home. Higgins Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Edward Merle Miller.
