Obituary

Funeral service for Dr. Charles Lowry Patrick, Jr., age 71, of Fayetteville, TN will be held at 11am on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Fayetteville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be from 5pm until 8pm on Wednesday, July 12 at Higgins.

Chuck was born July 31, 1951, in Lincoln County, TN to the late Charles L. Sr. and Mary Blanche Shull Patrick. He was a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and practiced in Tennessee and Alabama for 42 years. During his career Chuck was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, American Angus Association, and Holstein Association of America. He was highly active in the ARP Church serving as Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, and Elder over the years as well as Congregational Chairman for 40 years. If he was not making a farm call, at church, or with his family, he was at a ballgame. Chuck loved sports, watching, coaching and playing. He was a church league softball legend in his time, known to play in his coveralls and boots if needed. Chuck also cherished his time with his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours watching ballgames and activities, and to his grands he was “Grandad.” There is no doubt that Chuck loved the Lord, his family, and cows. He passed away July 8, 2023, at his home.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Patricia “Patty” Harris Patrick; children, Chad Patrick, Walt (Jennie) Patrick, Ben Patrick, Bea (John) Marsh; grandchildren, Chase, Alivia, and Sam Patrick, Wyatt, Tensie, John Colyar, and Imolee Patrick, Mary Ruth and Evie Marsh and baby sister due soon; siblings, Guy (Belinda) Patrick, Ruth (Eddie) Sims; several nieces, nephews and extended family members as well as many faithful friends. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his grandson, Whitman Shaw Patrick.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Fayetteville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 1720 Huntsville Hwy, Fayetteville, TN 37334 or fayettevillearp.org/give/.

Higgins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Dr. Charles L. Patrick, Jr.

Patty, we are heartbroken to hear of Chuck’s passing! There are so many wonderful memories of you and Chuck during his and Lowell’s senior year at UT. From the lovely Laurel Ave married student apartments, to the dinners out (when we could afford it), to all the hundreds of card games we played while Chad slept. We are so very sorry for your loss and will be praying for you and your family. I imagine Chuck may have already found someone in heaven to play Spades with! We love you and we loved Chuck.

Chuck was always kind when I was around him on the farm. I worked as a general part-time farm hand for his parents when I was a teen. I was young and did not make much money in those days, but it was a simpler lifestyle, and the cost of living was a fraction of what it is today. I miss that simpler lifestyle and enjoyed my time around the family when I was young. It was exciting the few times I got to help out on vet call days. Chuck had a way of making it fun. He will be missed, may he rest in peace. The family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

When I think of “Dr. Patrick” or better known to me, “ Chuck”- three things come to mind immediately: Softball! Anyone who ever saw him slide into home know how much he loved the game and the people who played! I am forever grateful for the time I spent playing with and for him. Church and family! Chuck was never bashful about his faith and involvement and dedication as a Christian. His love of family and time spent rearing children and especially showing cattle was unbelievable.”” Doctoring “! Any dairy farmer who trusted their herd health to Chuck, will tell you he was the best! Of course you sometimes had to wait on him to get to you but it was always worth the wait! Conversation while he was working ran from sports to current events and even the Bible ! He was a brilliant man. God blessed him with a wonderful wife and family and we were all blessed by knowing him. God bless all as we remember him during this time, and in the days ahead as we share memories.

He was honestly one of my most respected people I have ever had the chance to call my first boss, my friend, my veterinarian, my church friend, and a man very dear to me and my family. They don’t make people like Chuck Patrick very often and I feel so fortunate that he was a part of my life for the 53 years I have been here. These last few years have been a struggle for him but I honestly know he is sitting on the throne of our God today. He truly has blessed me and everyone who has had the privilege of knowing him. Please in peace my dear friend and love and prayers to all of you today and in the days to come. I will always smile everytime someone calls his name!! ❤️🥰
