Doris Bridges Newman Harris was born February 27, 1933, to Russell and Myrtle Bridges in Huntsville, Alabama. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Robert (Daddy Bob) Newman, daughter Pat Newman Daniel, and brother Bobby Bridges. Survivors include her husband, Bill Harris, son Bill Newman (Amy), daughter Mimi Newman McElroy (Larry), son-in-law Donnie Daniel, grandchildren, Isaac Newman, Mary Grace Newman, Jamie Daniel (Heather), Jody Daniel (Mari), Summer Newman Ernest, Magan O’Dell (Sean), Justin McElroy, and special nephew Rob Bridges (Gayle) and eight great-grandchildren.
Doris was a young bride to a World War II veteran. She had three children to raise, and a house to run as well as helping the family run a dairy. When her children went to college, so did she. After graduating from Business School, she worked as the Business Manager for Huntsville Mental Health Center for twenty-plus years.
Doris was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fayetteville for fifty-eight years.
Her love of horses and dogs was only surpassed by her love for her grandchildren.
The family wants to thank the Staff of Donalson Care Center for the loving care shown for our Nanna.
A private family burial took place in Unity Cemetery beside her husband, Bob Newman. Donations to honor the memory of Doris may be made to the charity of choice.
