It is with regret we announce the passing of Daniel Edward Jones, age 77, of Fayetteville, TN. Dan was born May 16, 1946, in Greeneville, TN and he passed away August 29, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family.
Dan graduated with a B.S. degree in biology and medical technology from University of Alabama Huntsville. During the 1970’s he moved to Chicago and while there he managed one of the largest outpatient laboratories in the country. Dan later moved with his family back to the Huntsville area and he desired a change in career. He first managed a construction company and then went on to establish his own company, DJ Construction. It was through that company Dan built St. Anthony Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pulaski, Higgins Funeral Home and many other commercial buildings and homes in Fayetteville. He was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church for 45 years and enjoyed flying private planes.
Survivors include his wife of almost 56 years, Mary Frances Jones; son, D. Shane Jones (Lori Jean) of Key West, FL; daughters, Melissa A. Colbert (Gordon), Amy M. Jones, and Cynthia L. Jones all of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Meghan (Jeff) Snyder, Max (Elizabeth) Truesdale, Mary Beth Colbert, Nichole (Ryan) Walker, Tyler (Olivia) Jones, Isaiah Blake, Sarah Johnson, Sadie Johnson; great-grandchildren, Coleman and Averie Truesdale, Skylar Townsend, Oliver Jones, Julia and Charlie Walker, and two due in 2024; sister, Faith Cartelli; brother, Stephen Jones; and several loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothea Louise Leming Jones; grandson, Samuel Colbert; brother-in-law, Dominick Cartelli; sister-in-law, Mary Rita Jones.
The family will host a Memorial Mass at 10am on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father George Velloorattil officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 9am to 10am on Saturday, September 16 in the Social Hall at St. Anthony. Burial will take place at Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Anthony Catholic Church Building Fund, 1900 Huntsville Highway, Fayetteville, TN 37334, or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Processing, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
