Obituary

A funeral service for Clyde Paul Thompson, age 73, of Huntsville, AL, will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Higgins Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Keith officiating. Burial will follow in Stewart Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Higgins.

Clyde was born on January 7, 1953, in Lincoln County, TN. He was a 1971 graduate of Central High School and worked for many years for Coca-Cola and Pepsi. However, his true calling was always that of a pastor. He preached and pastored several churches over the years, and after he retired, he loved visiting different congregations. Clyde always cherished coming back home to Fayetteville, returning every chance he got to eat at his favorite restaurants and ride the backroads of Lincoln County listening to music. Above all, Clyde loved his family, especially his grandchildren; his youngest grandchild brought him immense comfort in his final days. Clyde passed away on June 11, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Locker Thompson; sons, Clyde Paul Thompson, Jr. and Robert Thompson; grandchildren, Autumn, Chase, Tyler, Bentley, Emmy, Savannah, Kayla, and Lilly Thompson, and Connor Miles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Roland and Nannie B. Thompson, as well as his adoptive parents, Roy and Ovie Thompson.

Higgins Funeral Home is privileged to offer comfort, care, and support to the family of Clyde Paul Thompson.

Clyde was a funny, interesting and knowledgeable person to talk with. I had known him since we were kids, we lived on the same street. We were also classmates at the old Central HS. He will be greatly missed at our monthly class dinners, he really seemed to enjoy coming to those. Prayers for Jeannie and his extended family in what will be a very trying time in the months ahead.

I’m so sorry to hear about Pastor Clyde’s passing. I enjoyed knowing him as a fellow student in the Seventh Day Baptist summer institute classes years ago. He was so kind. I’m praying for comfort for his wife and family in their loss and I’m rejoicing that he is with Jesus in that land “where joys will never end.”

In the short years We knew Pastor Clyde, we came to see him as a true shepherd. He brought strength to our faith and guidance to our lives and love to our hearts. Ed found warmth and comfort from Pastor Clyde’s services at the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Paint Rock where he and Brenda chose to become a part of that congregation under his shepherding hands. We look forward to singing praises with him in heaven and wish God’s blessings and strength upon his family.

Clyde was a true pastor, not only teaching God’s people, but encouraging to come into one’s own ministry. Even his choice of a wife says how much he loved God and his word. She is a real woman of God like the wife in Proverbs 31. Both I consider a major influence on my life.

    Jeannie and family,
Having worked alongside Bro Clyde during his time at Paint Rock 7th Day Baptist, I grew to love and appreciate both of you. He preached some awesome sermons. Together, we 3 used to enjoy Sunday lunches in Woodville at Gail’s Diner… Lots of laughs and fellowship. May God cover your family with His loving grace and mercy for time to come.
