Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. C. W. Crowder, Jr  age 76 of Fayetteville will be conducted at 1:00pm Saturday at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Don Wallace officiating.  Burial will follow in Kelso Cemetery beside his wife Mary E. Crowder who died in 2004.  Mr. Crowder died Tuesday night in Huntsville Hospital.

He was a native of Knoxville, TN and son of the late Claude W. and Margaret A Ogle Crowder.  He was a veteran of U. S. Air Force receiving an honorable service award in 1953 for serving against the aggressors in Korea June 26, 1950.  He was a former employee of Western Electric, had his own bait & tackle shop, NASA, and retired form South Central Bell with 30 years of service.  He received the BellSouth Pioneer service award in 2006. Mr. Crowder was an auctioneer for many years with J Paul Richardson & Sons and a member of the West Fayetteville Church of Christ. He was a huge Tennessee Vols fan and when he was young he sold concessions at the stadium for his uncle.  He loved the outdoors, his hobbies were being on the lake fishing, creating and designing wooden signs and enjoyed painting, making bird houses, dream catchers, crafted jewelry, back scratchers, needle work, hand made blankets, pillows and tissue box holders.  He loved listening to all types of music and creating and making music CD’s.  Most people did not know that he was a Golden Gloves Boxer and also boxed in the Air Force.   He was a member of the ELKS USA.  He was a friend to many and always willing to help someone.  He never met a stranger and could talk, laugh and communicate with all types of people.  He loved to tell jokes and share his wit with all who would listen.  His heart for sharing and giving goes without mention, all that new him understood – without explanation, and he left his impressions on all that new him.

Survivors include a son Danny M. Crowder and wife Pam of Monroe, Ga, daughter Lavon Thompson and husband Larry of Fayetteville, step children David Gatlin and Debbie Eleftheriou, grandchildren Darryl Pogue, Brittney, Haley and Faith Crowder, Cheyenne and Scrapper Webb, step-grandchild Nicky Eleftheriou, brother Joe W. Crowder and half brothers Larry, Lynn and Terry Crowder all of Knoxville, step-mother Leona Crowder of Knoxville.  He was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia Webb.

Visitation with the family will be Friday evening 5-8PM at Higgins Funeral Home.
