Obituary

Funeral service for Mr. Brimage “Bud” Lee Smith, age 82, of Fayetteville, TN, will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 5, 2018, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. David Sain officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday evening 5 PM until 8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home. A second service will be at 2 PM on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at Union Hill Church of Christ in Moss, TN with visitation starting at 12 PM until time of service. Bro. Shane Smith will be officiating. Burial will follow in Union Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Smith was born on September 17, 1936 in Clay County, TN to the late Walter Lemuel and Leam Ada Turner Smith. He graduated from Hermitage Springs High School in 1955 and then Tennessee Technological University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on the earn his MBA degree from Alabama A&M University in 1976.

After graduating from Tennessee Tech and before moving to Fayetteville, TN in 1962, Bud worked as an engineer for the United States Air Force. In 1994, after 34 years of service, Bud retired from the US Army Aviation and Missile Command in Huntsville, AL. While working for the US Aviation and Missile Command, he also served on the Lincoln County Board of Education from 1968 to 1984. Bud and Clarice are members of the West Fayetteville Church of Christ. Mr. Smith passed away on October 2, 2018.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Clarice Jean Copass Smith; children, Beverly (David) Hood of Hampton Cove, AL, Bruce (Suzy) Smith of Taft, TN, Gregory L Smith of Decatur, AL, and Kimberly (Dennis) Herndon of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Valerie (Rob) Leonard, Jessica (Elliot) Hamm, Zak Smith, Crissy Smith, Sean Alex Smith, Taylor Herndon, and Kyle Herndon; great-grandchildren, Jake Leonard, Addie Claire Leonard, Katie Leonard, and Lily Hamm; siblings, Dillard (Joyce) Smith of Cleveland, GA, Belva Cowan Davis of Red Boiling Springs, TN, and Jimmy Smith of Moss, TN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Lemuel and Leam Ada Turner Smith; grandson, Ross Hood; and siblings, Willadean Allen, Jewell Carlisle, Douglas Smith, and Patricia Smith.

    sorry to hear about Mr. Bud-my dad enjoyed working with him – and the story about Mr. Bud using the encyclopedia to butcher that cow that time – I can’t remember who was helping him but the cow ran off a long way from where they were going to string it up. It was a funny memory-my parents loved your family

    Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Sadly, such losses are something we have to deal with … for now. When it occurs, we all look for a source of comfort as we grieve, help to ease the pain, the sense of emptiness. May you find comfort in these inspired words of Isaiah, “Your dead will live. … the earth will let those powerless in death come to life.” (Isa.26:19) God has promised us that millions of the dead are alive in His memory and He shows us in His Word how we can hope to see them again in the future in a cleansed earth.
