Obituary

A funeral service for Brenda Jo King Whitehead will be held at 2 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Shields officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Higgins as well as from 1 PM until time of the service on Friday.

Brenda passed away on July 14, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, AL. She was born on August 24, 1952, in Salem, OH, to the late Charles Cleveland King and Mary Jane Smith Shelton.

A talented and dedicated seamstress, Brenda was a loyal and hardworking employee throughout her life. She brought her skills to Serbin Manufacturing, Blue Ridge Shirt Plant, Doris Lee Drapes, and ultimately retired from Lee Company.

Brenda was known for her fiercely independent spirit. In addition to her skilled sewing, she found great joy in crafting, cooking, tending to her beautiful flowers, and spending quiet days fishing. Above all, Brenda was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and a devoted wife. After missing him deeply for the last 19 years, she is now happily reunited with the love of her life, her husband of nearly 40 years, Larry Wayne Whitehead.

She is survived by her loving children, Dewayna (Cody) Collins, Susie (Walter, Sr.) Clevenger, and Matthew Whitehead; her stepchildren, Brian Whitehead, Tracy Whitehead, and Cynthia Tran; her cherished grandchildren, Eddie-Wayne (Chrissa) Cannon, Walter (Tessa Bradford) Clevenger, Jr., Eric Collins, Isaac (Talia) Whitehead, and Emily (Brenden) Worthey; her great-granddaughter, Hunter Cannon; and her siblings, Charlotte (Larry) Holt, Connie (Grant) Clinard, and Daryl (Sylvia) Shelton. She also leaves behind numerous beloved step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Brenda was preceded in death by her brother, Randy King, and her stepfather, C.H. Shelton.
