Obituary

Betty Faye Solomon Durham was born May 2, 1938, in Taft, TN to the late Lonnie and Roxie May Bond Solomon. She lived in various places with her sisters and family members throughout her teenage years such as Akron, OH, Jessup, GA, Newbern, NC, and Sarasota and Key West, FL. She then married Melvin Durham of Belview, TN June 22, 1962, and they were together until Melvin’s Death on October 15, 1994. Betty was a seamstress at Serbin in Fayetteville and then chose to stay home and raise their son, Tim Durham (Timbo) who they fostered and adopted in 1978. Timbo was Betty and Melvin’s pride and joy. Betty Faye was lovingly known to Melvin as “Wilma,” and to Timbo as Mama or Maw. She enjoyed reading and read over 2000 books in her later years. She loved sewing, making quilts, working puzzles, genealogy, working in flower beds, and working on the farm and in the fields with Melvin and Timbo.

Betty Faye was a devout Christian; she Loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all of her heart and she loved studying His word and talking about Jesus. She loved her family deeply and was a very selfless, caring woman, an amazing cook, and a Mama, friend, or Aunt to everyone.

Betty Faye was 1 of 10 siblings. She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Durham; her mama and daddy; father and mother in-law, Lenny and Vida Durham; her sisters, Jewel, Peggy, Jeanette; and brother Lonnie Otis. She is survived by her son Tim “Timbo” Durham and daughter in-law, Missy Durham; granddaughters Erin and Megan; sisters Sylvia (Billy), Joyce Ann, Polly (Earl), Jane (Phil), Patsy, and brother Lonnie Solomon; many nieces, nephews; her loving neighbors, Ron and Bonnie Davidson, the Fosters; and her close friend Makisha Dollar from Ardmore/ Elkmont, AL.
