Tony was born June 4, 1963, at Fort Campbell, KY to the late Hiram Edward Banks and Renate Frank Banks who survives. He graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee and worked for Adtran in Huntsville for 16 years. Tony was a kind, thoughtful man of actions, not words. Although he was an engineer he was artistic and creative. Tony enjoyed woodworking and made the best pancakes, lasagna, and deer jerky around. He loved to fish and hunt, wear camo, and be outdoors. He was a big UT fan, and his yard was always extra mowed when they lost. Tony loved God and he loved his family. He will be remembered for spending time with them fishing, teaching his son to kick a football, and perhaps mostly as “Pappy” riding his grandson Teddy on the lawnmower. Tony passed away October 31, 2023, in Huntsville, AL.
Survivors include his mother, Renate Banks of Fayetteville; his wife of almost 33 years, Penny Banks of Fayetteville; son Brandon Banks and his wife Katie of New Market; daughter, Brett Harrell and her husband Blaze of Fayetteville; grandsons, Teddy and Milo Banks; brother, Hiram “Junior” Banks of California; and many other family members and friends. Tony was preceded in death by his father, Hiram Banks.
Higgins Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Anthony William Banks.

Tony was a good friend and colleague during my time at Adtran. I always enjoyed going to the range with Tony and the group popping off rounds at the end of the day. I remember our conversations about family values, conversative values, and Christianity. Great guy and will be missed. Prayers & condolences to the family
Tony was like a brother to me. We worked together for nearly 20 years at two different companies. He was creative AS an engineer, developing new products. We coauthored several U.S. Patents. We also shared personal lives together. After my retirement. distance did not quench our friendship. We got together often sharing stories of our families. I’m sure Tony would say that his greatest legacy is his family, in whom he was very proud. I am honored to have called him friend.
I so enjoyed meeting Tony for lunch when we had time to do so. The talks were always great, and it seemed like we spoke daily. Wish I had spent more time with him for sure. Great man who loved his family so much. Will miss him greatly.
Tony was a wonderful friend to my son Anthony Blair. He was very kind and respectful to me also. He was a great Christian man. He will be missed so much. Our condolences go out to Tony’s family.
