Obituary

Funeral service for Mrs. Alma Jean Birdsong, age 86, of Dellrose, TN, will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Gatlin and Bro. Terrel Pitts officiating. Burial will follow next to her husband, Mahlon Ellis Birdsong, in Wright’s Cemetery.

Mrs. Birdsong was born on July 28, 1931 in Lincoln County, TN to the late Roy Houston and Velma Sue Ray Gatlin. Alma Jean worked as a solder technician for Brown Engineering in Huntsville and then as an assembly worker for Maramont Corp in Pulaski. She attended Dellrose Church of Christ and loved to cook. Mrs. Birdsong passed away on April 26, 2018 at Donalson Care Center.

Survivors include her son, Bret Birdsong of Fayetteville, TN; sister, Doris Smith of Molino, TN; grandchildren, Jeremy W. Birdsong and Joshua H. (Sabrina) Birdsong; great-grandchildren, Connie Marie, James Mahlon, and Maverick Ellis Birdsong; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Earlie Houston Gatlin, sister, Mary Forbes, and brother, Edward Ray Gatlin.

Visitation with the family will be held at 5:00 until 8:00 PM on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Higgins Funeral Home. Higgins is honored to be serving the family of Mrs. Alma Jean Birdsong.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at PO Box 1000 Dept 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908.

    Every body in Dellrose loved Alma Jean. She was one of the people that we thought would always be around. It is a sad day and sad loss but we all have to go there someday. My prayers and blessings to yall. I love all of u very much.
    When we lived in Dellrose my son John and Brett were best buds. Our hearts go out to u.
