Community Grief Walk

HIGGINS FUNERAL HOME TO HOST COMMUNITY NATURE WALK FOR HEALING AND REMEMBRANCE
Fayetteville, Tennessee — Higgins Funeral Home invites local residents to a restorative, nature-based Community Grief Walk on Sunday, August 30, 2026. Designed as a gentle, accessible gathering, the afternoon event offers a supportive space for individuals and families navigating the journey of loss.
The event will begin at 2:00 PM at the Joy Gleghorn Nature Preserve at Wells Hill Park in Fayetteville. The gathering will open with a brief reflection and a symbolic community action to focus the mind and honor loved ones. Following the opening, participants are invited to walk the trail at their own pace.
“Grief can often feel like a very isolating experience, but stepping out into the peace of nature reminds us that we don’t have to carry the weight alone,” says Andrea Delap, Funeral Director at Higgins Funeral Home. “We wanted to create an afternoon where there is no pressure and no right or wrong way to grieve. Whether someone wants to walk in quiet reflection or share stories and memories with neighbors, this path is for them.”
Owner Chris Ross echoes this sentiment: “Our hope is that this walk provides our neighbors with a meaningful way to connect, find comfort, and feel the embrace of a supportive community.”
Families are encouraged to bring children, as a dedicated youth area will be set up under a tent at the beginning of the walk. The space will feature interactive, age-appropriate activities designed to help children creatively express their feelings, process their emotions, and honor their special memories in a gentle way. Water and grief care resources will also be available at the pavilion.
The event is entirely free and open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one, whether recently or many years ago. Participants are welcome to bring a friend, a family member, or a photograph of their loved one to carry with them.
While registration is not required, RSVPs are appreciated to help organizers prepare materials. To RSVP CLICK HERE or for more information, please contact Andrea at Higgins Funeral Home at 931-433-2544 or visit higginsfh.com.
