Obituary

Funeral service for Mrs. Thelma Ruth Moffett Hampton, age, 89 of Fayetteville, TN; will be conducted Tuesday August 23, 2022, at 10 AM at Higgins Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Gaskill officiating. Burial will follow in Unity Cemetery. Mrs. Hampton passed away August 20, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family.

Thelma Ruth was born April 13, 1933, in Lincoln County, TN, to the late Thomas and Nettie McAlister Moffett. She worked for many years at Blue Ridge Shirt Plant, Serbin, and Lee Company also as a teacher’s assistant and was a member of the Howell Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  Thelma Ruth loved her family and enjoyed cooking and gardening on their farm and was known for her buck dancing.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years Bill Hampton, daughter Connie (Tim) Porter and son Tommy (Susan) Hampton all of Fayetteville, TN; grandchildren Kaila (Jared) Gentry, Leah Hampton, Alyssa Hampton, Laura (Brian) Taylor and John (Caroline) Barnes. Great Grandchildren Camden, Weston, and Adyson Gentry and soon to be great granddaughter expected in December of this year. Sisters Nancy (Larry) Wheeler, and Loyce Weir; brothers, Ray (Carolyn) Moffett and Hugh (Laura) Moffett, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to say a special thank you to niece and caregiver Edwina Hazelwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Bill Moffett, Jerry Moffett, and sisters, Ann Norwood, and Mackey Locke.

Visitation with the family will be Monday August 22, 2022, from 5 PM until 8 PM at Higgins Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Unity Cemetery in care of Wyanne King at 901 2nd Ave. Fayetteville, TN. 37334.
