A funeral service for Melvin Ray Pruett, age 91, of Elora, TN, will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Jeremy Ogle and Bro. Milton Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 PM until 8 PM on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Higgins Funeral Home.
Melvin Pruett, a skilled tradesman and carpenter who could build anything from houses to roadways, was born on November 19, 1933, to the late Raymond and Gertrude Todd Pruett. Raised in Lincoln County, Tennessee, he had a passion for hauling cotton with the Elora Cotton Gin, working alongside the Delap & Sons, Owens, and Brannon families. Melvin’s hobbies included golfing, playing the board game Aggravation, riding motorcycles, and quail hunting. He passed away on September 5, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Survivors include his children, Donna Caissie and Terry Pruett of Elora; grandchildren, Sherrie (Rick) Gatlin, Shannon Caissie, Kerry Pruett, and Lorrie Pruett (Brandon) Trumbo; great-grandchildren, Nick (Emily) Gatlin, Chelsea (John) Warner, Ryann Trumbo, and Jude Trumbo; great-great-grandchildren, Kandon Gatlin, and Kinsley Warner; and a sister, Wanda Layman. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Elizabeth Woods Pruett; and a brother, Doug Pruett.
